Hualien Earthquake | Taiwan’s Most Beautiful Scenery! HOYA BIT Collaborates with the Ko Brothers to Sell Jerseys for Disaster Relief, Demonstrating Social Responsibility

In the early morning of April 3, 2024, a sudden earthquake shook the entire island of Taiwan. The epicenter of the earthquake was located in the eastern waters of Taiwan, measuring 7.2 on the Richter scale. This was the largest earthquake in Taiwan in 25 years since the 921 earthquake. The earthquake was felt throughout Taiwan, with severe damage in the Hualien area. According to the statistics from the Central Disaster Response Center, as of the 7th, 13 people have died, 1140 people have been injured, and 6 people are missing. Numerous buildings collapsed, and infrastructure such as transportation, electricity, healthcare, and education suffered severe damage. In response to this, HOYA BIT Virtual Asset Exchange and the internationally renowned billiards players sponsored by it, the Ko brothers – Ko Pin-yi, Ko Pin-chung, and Ko Ping-han, actively participated in disaster relief efforts to provide support and assistance to the affected areas.

Peggy Peng, the CEO of HOYA BIT Virtual Asset Exchange, said, “We are deeply shocked and saddened by this earthquake. As a part of Taiwan, HOYA BIT understands the importance of unity and support in times of difficulty and hopes to help the victims recover their normal lives as soon as possible.” She further pointed out that after the earthquake, many people have come forward to help the victims through their own contributions, which made her sigh, “This is the most beautiful scenery of Taiwan!”

HOYA BIT Virtual Asset Exchange has always been concerned about public welfare. When the earthquake occurred in the Japanese Peninsula, they not only donated a day’s salary from all employees for disaster relief, but also focused on promoting technology education in remote areas. Faced with the earthquake in Taiwan, they were deeply concerned and immediately launched a caring campaign. They contacted the Hualien area on the same day to inquire if there was a need for supplies or other support, in order to provide assistance to the victims to the best of their ability. At the same time, they also proactively contacted the Hualien and Wulai mountain area elementary schools where they had previously collaborated on technology education activities to confirm if there were any damages. Fortunately, the principals reported good news that all staff members were safe and sound.

In the face of the disaster, the people of Taiwan have shown amazing unity and courage. Rescue teams and volunteers from all over the country quickly rushed to the disaster area to actively participate in search and rescue and relief work, hoping to quickly recover the lives and property losses of the affected people. Despite the difficulties, the people of Taiwan remain hopeful and determined to walk firmly on the path of disaster response. The Taiwanese billiards stars, the Ko brothers, also stepped forward in this difficult time and organized a meaningful “Hualien Disaster Relief Charity Sale”.

The Ko brothers are well-known billiards players in Taiwan. The eldest brother, Ko Pin-yi, and the second brother, Ko Pin-chung, have won the title of world champion multiple times. This time, they brought out their cherished Super League jerseys, which were covered with the autographs of 16 Super League players. Originally, they planned to display this collection in their training room, but seeing the recent earthquake and the resulting disaster, the Ko brothers were deeply moved. Therefore, they decided to hold a charity sale event for this precious jersey, giving it a more significant meaning and hoping to contribute to the Hualien disaster relief efforts.

The charity sale event has received enthusiastic response from all sectors of society. After intense bidding, a kind-hearted billiards enthusiast won the bid for 150,000. At this moment that requires joint efforts, HOYA BIT Virtual Asset Exchange was deeply moved by the enthusiastic participation of everyone and, as a responsible Taiwanese enterprise, decided to donate an additional 150,000 from the proceeds of the final charity sale, adding more strength to this event.

In the shadow of the disaster, the people of Taiwan have demonstrated great unity and courage, coming together to fight against the disaster. Although the disaster has brought pain and difficulties, the seed of hope has taken root and sprouted in this land. HOYA BIT Virtual Asset Exchange has shown its corporate social responsibility by actively participating and raising awareness of the earthquake disaster, bringing warmth and support to the affected people. With everyone united, overcoming difficult times, we will be able to rebuild our home!
