Taiwanese Prosecutors Finally Take Action! Chen Lin Jiou, the Eight-digit Endorser of JPEX, Summoned for Investigation

Just a few weeks after attending a press conference to respond to allegations that he endorsed a fraudulent platform, JPEX, singer Chen Lingjiu, also known as “Zero Nine,” is now reportedly being secretly questioned by the Investigation Bureau (IB) on charges of fraud. The case has been transferred to the Taipei District Prosecutors Office for further investigation, and whether Chen will be listed as a defendant instead of a witness will depend on the evidence gathered.

According to previous reports, as of October 4th, the JPEX case has resulted in the arrest of 20 individuals and received 2,523 complaints in Hong Kong, involving approximately HKD 1.55 billion (about TWD 6.392 billion).

In Taiwan, the Financial Supervisory Commission (FSC) has also confirmed receiving reports of illegal solicitation and provision of evidence by JPEX and has handed over the information to the judicial authorities for investigation. As there are many victims in Taiwan and the involved amount reaches millions of dollars, the Taipei City Investigation Division of the IB has recently secretly questioned the famous singer Chen Lingjiu, who was responsible for endorsing JPEX. The case has been transferred to the Taipei District Prosecutors Office for further investigation, and the process has been kept strictly confidential.

According to a report by United Daily News, the IB has questioned Chen Lingjiu as a witness. Chen claimed that the whole incident was arranged by his manager, Liu Boliang, from Rock Records, and he was only responsible for endorsement. He also stated that he himself was a victim and whether the IB will question Liu Boliang is still under evaluation.

During the investigation, it was discovered that Chen Lingjiu received a seven-figure endorsement fee, which far exceeded the market rate and our previous estimate of TWD 3 million per year. Although Chen claimed to have terminated the cooperation with JPEX by the end of July 2023 and removed related promotional materials, he personally suffered a loss of 10-15% of his assets due to the JPEX incident. However, since the outbreak of the JPEX case, the company located near Taipei’s East District, next to SOGO, has disappeared, and Taiwanese victims have no way to seek compensation, so they have been forced to give statements to the IB.

Whether Chen Lingjiu was completely unaware of the situation remains to be clarified, and whether he will be listed as a defendant in the future will depend on the evidence gathered during the investigation.
