As co-sponsors, Republican Senator Roger Marshall and Democratic Senator Elizabeth Warren introduced the “2022 Digital Assets Anti-Money Laundering Act” in December 2022. At the time, Marshall stated, “Following the 2001 September 11 terrorist attacks, our government implemented meaningful reforms to help banks exclude bad actors from the U.S. financial system. Applying similar policies to cryptocurrency exchanges will prevent digital assets from being misused to fund illegal activities, without restricting access for law-abiding American citizens.”
