The bankruptcy court has approved the settlement between the authorities and Genesis Global Capital, Genesis Asia Pacific, and Genesis Global Holdco, and has prohibited Genesis from operating in New York. This is also the largest settlement amount in New York’s history against a cryptocurrency company, with over $2.5 billion in fines imposed on self-dealing cryptocurrency platforms to date.
Letitia James stated:
Genesis has been “lying and deceiving investors,” who have deposited over $1.1 billion into the platform through the Gemini Earn program. Once again, we see the potential consequences and losses resulting from the lack of regulation in the cryptocurrency industry.

Letitia James further noted in the announcement that the settlement terms only apply to Genesis, and the lawsuits against the remaining defendants and Gemini Trust will continue.
