Nvidia’s Generative AI Penetrates the Beauty Market, Ulta Beauty Enables Beauty Enthusiasts to Experience New Styles
As the New Year approaches, beauty enthusiasts are preparing to transform their appearance and attend New Year’s parties looking stunning. Ulta Beauty, the largest beauty retailer in the United States, has partnered with Nvidia to launch a new AI application called GLAMlab Hair Try On. This app allows consumers to use their smartphones to take selfies and generate preview images of themselves with different hair colors and styles. With this app, consumers no longer need to worry about buying hair dye colors that don’t suit them or ending up with strange hair colors that they are too embarrassed to show off.
GLAMlab Hair Try On provides AI-generated hair color previews. Users can either take selfies using their phone’s camera or upload photos of themselves or models to try out different hair colors and styles. According to Juan Cardelino, Director of Computer Vision and Digital Innovation at Ulta Beauty, consumers need to experience new hairstyles and makeup styles before making a purchase.
Ulta Beauty has 1,400 stores across the United States and many of its brands offer trial products to consumers in various retail outlets. The mobile app is being developed to integrate with physical stores, and it also includes product links for consumers to make purchases.
Hair Try On is Ulta Beauty’s first generative AI application, which utilizes Nvidia’s StyleGAN2 neural network architecture. The AI inference is powered by NVIDIA Tensor Core GPUs, allowing the app to simulate a new hairstyle in about 5 seconds, with each subsequent hairstyle taking only about 1 second to generate. This process ensures that the user’s face remains undistorted and true to life.
Ulta is planning to integrate virtual hair styling with its in-store services. Hair stylists can use the app to showcase new styles to their clients, allowing them to visualize their appearance before getting their hair done and avoiding any dissatisfaction with the hair color.
In addition to the experience of trying out new styles, the AI virtual styling app also allows users to unleash their creativity by taking multiple selfies and experimenting with different styles. Users can first try out new looks themselves through DIY, and then decide whether or not to purchase the hair dye.
With this new AI experience, anyone can transform their silver hair into green or purple. Everyone can quickly change their hairstyle and become an internet celebrity.
What is NVIDIA StyleGAN2?
StyleGAN is an AI model framework specifically designed for generating virtual human faces. The next-generation StyleGAN2 has redesigned the old framework, improving image quality to make synthetic photos more realistic. It has also redefined image modeling techniques, allowing the new model framework to distinguish whether a face comes from the internet or elsewhere.
