On January 29th, Musk’s neurotechnology company Neuralink successfully implanted its cutting-edge device into a human test subject. The identity of the patient has not been disclosed, but it is reported that the patient has recovered well after the surgery. Musk himself shared this news on the social media platform X (formerly known as Twitter).
Neuralink’s human trials began in May when the company received authorization from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for its first human clinical trials. In the fall of last year, the company started recruiting patients to participate in these trials, further paving the way for the commercialization of the company.

Musk revealed that Neuralink’s first product is called “Telepathy,” which can restore mobility to individuals with severe paralysis. Telepathy is said to allow these patients to control external devices using only neural signals. It can provide a way for people who have lost traditional means of communication to have a voice and may completely change the way patients with neurodegenerative diseases like amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) interact with the world.
Musk stated, “Telepathy” will allow you to control your phone or computer with your mind. The initial users will be people with physical disabilities. “You can imagine what it would be like if Stephen Hawking communicated more efficiently, that’s the goal.”
Although this initial human trial is a step forward for Neuralink, it is just a small beginning to obtain FDA approval. Medical device companies like Neuralink must undergo multiple rounds of data collection and rigorous testing to obtain final approval from regulatory agencies.
In the flourishing brain-machine interface (BCI) industry, Neuralink is not the only participant. Companies like Synchron, Precision Neuroscience, and Paradromics are also developing similar technologies and making progress in their respective fields. With Musk’s high-profile status, Neuralink has gained significant attention, but the market competition remains fierce, with multiple competitors vying for a leading position. The world is eagerly awaiting the transformative impact of this technology on humanity.
The crypto community, always looking for excitement, quickly embraced the meme coin Telepathy, which saw a staggering 41,000% surge:
