“Play and Earn” game STEPN announced yesterday that the team will be rebranded and launch a new fitness social game called “STEPN GO”. It will introduce new tokens GGT, lending feature Haus, and social interactive map function. However, considering the current status of STEPN, will the new STEPN GO attract new users?

The STEPN team stated that they are launching a brand new fitness social application called STEPN GO, which focuses on a diverse reward mechanism that connects fitness, sports, and social functions in daily life.
According to the whitepaper, STEPN GO will introduce the following features to enhance the game’s playability and user experience:

New Token GGT:
GGT (GO GAME TOKEN) is an unlimited supply game token used to upgrade and enhance sports shoes, create clothing, and participate in social activities. Similar to STEPN’s GST token, it can be earned through walking or running.
Stamina Mechanism:
The game has a daily energy limit, and exceeding the limit will cause the sports shoes to overheat and temporarily become unusable. Users must burn some sports shoes to obtain energy and increase the energy limit to maintain sustainability.
Sneaker Lending Feature Haus:
Users will be able to lend their sports shoes to friends or family members and share the running benefits. The more frequent users of the Haus feature, the more reputation points they will earn and unlock more benefits.
Customizable 3D Virtual Characters:
Users can customize their avatars, appearance, and clothing in STEPN GO. Additionally, clothing has rarity levels and can be earned by running and traded on the market.
Social Interactive Map:
Users can place “chat boxes” on the interactive map in the application to interact with others and add them to their friends’ list. They can also invite others to exercise together by burning GGT.
Physical Fitness Level:
The system will assess the user’s running frequency and intensity and categorize them into levels such as “weak, sore, strong.” Users will receive a 50%, 100%, or 150% profit rate based on their activity level. If users do not run for a certain period, they will receive less profit.
Clearly, this feature aims to reward active users and motivate inactive users to encourage regular use of STEPN GO and promote outdoor activities.
In addition, users will soon be able to participate in a lottery by locking GMT tokens during the STEPN GO Alpha phase and have a chance to win one of the first 6,000 pairs of STEPN GO sneakers.
It is reported that the STEPN team has directly changed most of their official social media accounts to STEPN GO, including X, Instagram, Youtube, and Reddit. This move has raised concerns among long-term STEPN users, questioning what will happen to their old STEPN accounts.
In response, the STEPN team from Find Satoshi Lab stated that it will not be affected, and the OG STEPN app will remain unchanged. In other words, both the STEPN and STEPN GO apps and accounts will exist independently. Although FSL has not disclosed much information, the two accounts may be connected through other incentive measures.
Despite the excitement and anticipation in the official announcement’s comments, there are widespread concerns among users:
“You chose to start another project instead of solving the original problems, and made its mechanism more complicated. I don’t think Stepn Go will be better.”
As a legendary Move to Earn game in 2022, STEPN was once seen as the dark horse application most likely to break through the cryptocurrency field. At its peak, it had over 700,000 monthly active users and brought substantial daily earnings of over $42 to users when the GST token price reached a new high within the game.

However, the good times didn’t last. The pressure of the bear market and a decreasing influx of new users have led to a gradual decrease in average earnings for both the team and users, accelerating the outflow of users. Currently, STEPN’s lowest daily income is only $0.06, and last month’s monthly active users were only 14,000.
Despite this, the STEPN team continues to focus on product updates and brand collaborations, including integrating Apple Pay into the app, launching a social PVP game called Gas Hero, and announcing a collaboration with sportswear giant Adidas last month to release 1,000 NFTs.
However, the future development of STEPN or the new STEPN GO will depend on whether new and old users are willing to support it.
