Impact of the Official Launch of Apple Vision Pro on the Metaverse Project

Apple Vision Pro, the official release of which has sparked a wave of unboxing videos and speculation about the future of immersive experiences, has once again brought attention to the long-dormant concept of the metaverse. The cryptocurrency community has also weighed in on Vision Pro and its potential impact.

Last year, Apple released its VR headset, Apple Vision Pro, which has recently hit the market. With features such as dynamic eye tracking technology, high-performance graphics processing, and gesture recognition, Vision Pro offers a new level of human-computer interface experience and enhances the user experience and application scenarios of existing products.

Even the cryptocurrency community has embraced Vision Pro, using it to create alternative gallery applications by filling their rooms with their own Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC) NFTs. Additionally, Vision Pro has been used to view various NFT applications.

In the cryptocurrency world, there have been numerous analyses and comments on the impact of Apple Vision Pro on the cryptocurrency ecosystem and metaverse industry. This article takes the opportunity to review the views and plans of various metaverse projects regarding Apple Vision Pro.

Sebastian Borget, the CEO of The Sandbox, although Apple did not mention the metaverse at WWDC 2023, predicts that such applications will increasingly require the integration of Web3 and blockchain technology, forcing Apple to accept this technology. He also expects that generative AI (AIGC) will be combined with VR capabilities to further enhance the immersive experience of the metaverse.

Yemel Jardi, the executive director of Decentraland, believes in the significance of Apple Vision Pro for the entire industry, as the metaverse needs hardware as its foundation. Decentraland hopes to have better hardware. Yemel also points out that another key aspect is digital characters, as people find it difficult to interact with cartoonish characters based on their operational experience. Vision Pro can help users create hyper-realistic digital characters to solve this problem. Based on this, Yemel believes that Vision Pro can integrate well with Decentraland, allowing users to enter the metaverse using this device.

Unity, the game engine that has a partnership with Apple, introduced the visionOS SDK at WWDC 2023, which provides developers with Unity PolySpatial technology to create applications that can run on Apple Vision Pro, such as games, scene simulations, digital twins, and education applications. However, this feature is currently only available to Unity Pro, Unity Enterprise, or Unity Industry subscribers.

Render Network, a decentralized image rendering project, has gained attention as its trademark has repeatedly appeared in Apple’s promotional videos and events. Moreover, its core technology is one of the most important elements of VR and AR. Therefore, there are rumors that Render Network may collaborate with Apple in the future. Following the official release of Apple Vision Pro, Render Network’s parent company, OTOY, launched the Archive simulation game on the Apple Store, providing users with a space experience of Star Trek, featuring hundreds of fully simulated scenes and objects spanning nearly 60 years of the series’ history.

The launch of Apple Vision Pro undoubtedly drew attention to many cryptocurrency projects and introduced the market to a new level of immersive experience technology. Each project has high hopes for this device and expects it to drive the development of the metaverse industry. However, currently, both the user and developer base are relatively niche, and the software ecosystem on the supply side has been criticized for its limited applications. Additionally, Vision Pro still has many areas for improvement, such as comfort during long-term wear, input methods compared to traditional keyboards, and battery life, which all contribute to the key challenge of user experience. Therefore, there is still a long way to go before we see hardware driving the widespread adoption of the metaverse.
