April Fishing Attack Report: 34K Victims, $38 Million Lost, Base Hackers Increase by 145%

Cybersecurity software ScamSniffer has released its phishing attack report for April. The number of phishing victims and the amount of financial losses have decreased significantly by 46% compared to March, with 34,619 victims and $38.63 million in damages.

Base Hacker Activity Surges

The main cause of financial losses was attributed to Permit, IncreaseAllowance, and Uniswap Permit2 phishing signatures. These methods led to significant losses, with up to 88% of stolen assets being ERC20 tokens.

ScamSniffer revealed that the primary method used to carry out these phishing attacks was through fake Twitter accounts. These accounts impersonated popular projects and were detected in large numbers by ScamSniffer’s browser extension.

Despite a decrease in hacker activity, the Base blockchain experienced a 145% increase in hacker data. In terms of stolen addresses, the top two rankings were in Base, accounting for 21% of the total amount stolen in April.

ScamSniffer warned that phishing attacks are one of the main threats to cryptocurrency users and advised caution.
