Apple’s Ambitious Vision for Artificial Intelligence: Seeking Competitive Edge through AI Chip Development and Enhancing Software with AI
With tonight’s Spring Conference and the upcoming Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) in June approaching, Apple, which has always been silent in the field of AI, is being speculated to announce its AI strategy at the event next month, including the data-scarce generative AI model “Ajax” and the “ACDC” AI chip reported by foreign media.

Apple’s artificial intelligence strategy may be unveiled in June
Apple’s official website shows that the company will hold the Spring Conference “Let Loose” online at 10 pm Taiwan time on the 7th, and is expected to release the all-new iPad Pro and iPad Air.
Renowned Bloomberg Apple journalist Mark Gurman pointed out that this conference will focus on the iPad, and the company is expected to go all out to make the iPad a substitute for laptops.

He said that previous iPads lacked the multitasking capabilities of laptops and had no obvious advantages compared to ordinary smartphones. Even if they increased the screen size and used an external keyboard to improve user office efficiency, it was still a compromise. However, Apple plans to equip the iPad with Mac-level chips, which is expected to bring significant performance improvements to the iPad.
He also added, “With the increasing capabilities of smartphones, Apple’s product positioning for the iPad must be redefined at this conference.”
According to Mark Gurman’s previous report, as part of iOS 18, Apple has been testing its generative AI model “Ajax” since early last year, and intends to introduce it into its core applications along with AI technologies from OpenAI or Google. Specifically, Pages, Numbers, and Keynote will add AI-based automatic summaries and conclusion analysis functions. The software development tool Xcode is also expected to add AI functions to keep up with the likes of Github Copilot. The hardware maintenance service AppleCare will be assisted by an AI chatbot. Apple Music is expected to upgrade with AI technology to provide personalized playlists. In addition, Apple Insider claims that the built-in browser Safari will also integrate related technologies. Safari will be upgraded to include real-time webpage summaries and content blocking tools like “Web Eraser.” Visual search capabilities are expected to be launched in 2025, allowing users to directly obtain information on related consumer products from website images. In addition, during last week’s quarterly earnings conference call, Apple CEO Tim Cook revealed the achievements of Apple Watch combining AI technology: “We are using AI and machine learning technologies to provide life-saving features for Apple products, such as abnormal heart rhythm notifications and fall detection.”
However, Mark Gurman still admits that Apple is still lagging behind its peers in the field of AI, including its biggest competitor Samsung, which launched the Galaxy S24 series with integrated AI functionalities last month. Apple’s generative AI vision is expected to be fully realized and popularized in its products by 2025 at the earliest.
According to WSJ reports, Apple is reportedly developing chips that can run AI software on data center servers, internally referred to as “ACDC (Apple Chips in Data Center),” which is expected to give the company an advantage in the AI competition.
With various companies adopting AI technology one after another, Apple also seems to have to reveal more details about “Ajax” and “ACDC” at the upcoming 35th Apple Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) next month. Insiders previously pointed out that the focus of the conference from June 10th to 14th, in addition to the release of the next generation versions of iOS 18 and its major products, will also be on AI integration, and Apple may announce their highly anticipated artificial intelligence strategy.
