Musk Pauses Party Formation, Reportedly Considering Support for Vance in the 2028 Presidential Election
Elon Musk’s Plans for the America Party Encounter Setbacks
In early July, Elon Musk announced plans to establish the America Party, claiming it would represent discontented voters from both major political parties. However, within weeks, foreign media reported that Musk was concerned that founding a new political party could create rifts with some allies in the Republican Party, thereby jeopardizing his relationship with Vice President JD Vance. As a result, the initiative to create the party has been put on hold.
Announcement of the America Party to Challenge the Two-Party System
Musk publicly stated in early July his intention to create the America Party. He expressed that this party would represent voters who are disappointed with the traditional forces of both the Democratic and Republican parties, and he further declared that the party would focus on several key congressional seats, aiming to become a critical minority that could sway congressional votes.

Concerns Over Relationships with Republican Allies Lead to a More Cautious Approach
However, according to The Wall Street Journal, Musk privately revealed that he did not want the establishment of a third party to affect his relationships with key Republican allies, emphasizing that he should focus on his core business operations. Reuters reported that Musk has gradually reduced his activities related to party formation.
In his political maneuvers, Musk has chosen to maintain his relationship with Vice President Vance, who is viewed as a potential successor to Trump’s “Make America Great Again” (MAGA) movement. Musk confided to those close to him that if he were to establish a third party, his relationship with Vance might become awkward.
Further reports indicated that Musk is even considering reallocating some funds to support Vance’s plans should he decide to run for the 2028 presidential election.
Cancellation of Related Party Formation Activities
Although Musk has not formally announced the abandonment of his party formation plans, related activities have noticeably decreased. He and his aides have ceased engagement with third-party advocacy figures, including former Democratic presidential candidate Andrew Yang and billionaire Mark Cuban. A video conference that was initially scheduled for the end of July with a group specifically promoting third-party activities was also canceled at the last minute.
