Digital Transformation and AI Factories Will Become Industry Mainstreams! Zuckerberg and Nadella Announce: Companies Will Have Their Own AI Production Lines

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg and Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella Discuss AI Technology

On May 1, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg and Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella shared the stage to discuss AI technology, covering topics from underlying infrastructure and open-source ecosystems to significant changes in the future work patterns of developers. Their conversation included applications ranging from GitHub Copilot, the Llama model, to Digital Twins and AI factories. Both tech leaders concluded by stating, “Embrace AI, or risk being left behind.”

Every Platform Shift Begins with “Rewriting the Entire Tech Stack”

Nadella pointed out that the current development of AI resembles the transitions from PCs to the internet, and then to mobile devices.

“Whether it’s hardware architecture, storage systems, or programming language support, AI requires the entire tech stack to be rebuilt,” he emphasized.

AI Model Efficiency Skyrockets, Costs Decline, Creating Deep Application Opportunities

Nadella also mentioned that AI model efficiency improves tenfold every 6 to 12 months, leading to a rapid decrease in overall costs and significantly enhancing the feasibility of collaboration among various AI models.

“It’s like multiple AI agents can communicate and accomplish tasks with each other,” he stressed.

Microsoft Embraces Open Source, Users Demand Freedom of Choice

Regarding why Microsoft has vigorously supported open-source in recent years, Nadella stated:

“It’s not because we believe in open source, but because our users demand it.” Enterprises require the flexibility of hybrid deployments, whether it’s SQL Server versus PostgreSQL or Linux versus Windows. Therefore, Azure will support both closed and open-source models, providing a complete AI toolchain.

Every Engineer Will Carry a Group of AI Agents in the Future

Zuckerberg and Nadella both believe that future engineers will act like “technical directors,” overseeing a group of AI agents specialized in programming, debugging, and modeling.

AI’s code writing rate within Microsoft has already reached 20-30%, with some projects being “almost entirely completed by AI,” Nadella emphasized.

Digital Twin Technology Matures, AI Factories Become Industry Mainstream

Nadella specifically noted that “Digital Twin” will play a crucial role in the future of manufacturing and infrastructure.

“From chip design to factory processes, everything must first be simulated and optimized in the virtual world before moving to the physical stage,” he emphasized, noting that construction is beginning across the United States.

The Magic of Open-Source Models: Making Them Smaller, Faster, and Smarter with Distillation

Zuckerberg explained that Meta’s latest Llama model starts off large but can be condensed into a much smaller yet powerful version through “Distillation.” In the future, developers will be able to choose model sizes based on their needs or even create custom task agents.

The Future Developer’s Worldview: Applications, Documentation, and Code Will No Longer Have Boundaries

Nadella concluded by sharing his vision for the future where Word, Excel, and PowerPoint are no longer standalone applications but unified within a “smart workflow system.” Users will be able to produce content starting from a chat and gradually transform it into apps or analytical reports, which represents the true revolution brought by AI. In this regard, Zuckerberg also stated that the boundaries between apps, documents, and code will dissolve, merging them into a single entity.

Don’t Fear AI; Fear the Lack of AI Usage

Zuckerberg added, “What will take your job is not AI, but the person who knows how to use AI.” Both leaders pointed out that we are at a turning point in industry and civilization; developers should not fear AI but actively embrace it to avoid being left behind in this wave of change.
