Investing for financial freedom has become a part of modern people’s pursuit, but besides material returns, are there other forms of “interest”? If we shift our investment towards imagination and creativity, how much unexpected feedback can we gain? The Street Corner Interest project of the Taipei Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA) invites everyone to re-examine this question, combining art with urban space to allow audiences to experience priceless emotions and creativity in their busy lives.

From October 12th to December 8th, 2024, the Taipei MOCA will hold the Street Corner Interest project, curated by the Sandwich Factory. Led by six artists, the exhibition invites audiences to stroll through urban alleys and experience the power of art. The concept of this exhibition is to view art as an investment, with each artwork symbolizing a “deposit” of imagination, offering priceless feelings and more free time in return.

Curated by the Sandwich Factory, which has long been committed to promoting inclusive values, the exhibition features artists Chiou Chih-Hua, Tian Zhongxun, Lin Yanzhu, Lu Yingyu, Huang Pinling, and Zheng Xianyu, forming a creative “art investment portfolio.” Each artist’s work reflects deep contemplation on life and emotions, showcasing how freedom of the mind can be obtained through creativity.

The exhibition covers various corners of Zhongshan District, Taipei City, from the alleys on the west side of MOCA to the Nanshi Business District, and to the Heart Zhongshan Linear Park. As audiences walk through these areas, they will encounter various art installations. Lu Yingyu’s “Poetic City” engages in a dialogue between poetry and urban space, while Tian Zhongxun’s “Blue Flow” portrays the connection between humans and nature through a large LED screen. Lin Yanzhu’s “Eternal Loop” explores the transformation of material and spirit through NFT and circuit board installations. These artworks, like a rich art investment portfolio, bring priceless feelings to viewers.

The exhibition also combines the collaboration between MOCA and Jiancheng Junior High School, with the simultaneous exhibition of the two art projects. The student-led “Body Sketching Project” by Xiao Shi Productions explores spatial awareness and bodily expression, while fiber artist Lin Zifen’s “Boundary Bio Portraits” creates ecological sculptures using recycled materials. These works showcase how students rethink their connection with the environment and discover the beauty of life through art.

During a press conference, MOCA Director Luo Lizhen stated, “This street corner art project not only extends cultural art to the neighborhood but also deepens the influence of art and culture education through long-term collaboration with Jiancheng Junior High School.” She emphasized that such activities not only promote community identity but also bring more artistic power and a sense of participation to the community.

Throughout the exhibition, MOCA and the Sandwich Factory curatorial team will hold a series of activities to allow audiences to participate in different ways. From sign language art tours, non-visual tours, to parent-child handicraft workshops and physical workshops, audiences can experience the charm of art through interaction. In addition, MOCA has also collaborated with the “Kairos” platform to launch the “Presence Certificate” activity, allowing audiences to receive their own art records when participating in tours or workshops.
