Antitrust Regulations Loom Over NVIDIA?
NVIDIA and the Integral Role of AI in Creative Generative Art

Bloomberg recently interviewed Nancy Curtin, Chief Investment Officer at AlTi Global, who stated that while NVIDIA’s Blackwell superpower GPU represents a blue ocean, several challenges have also emerged. Managing over $70 billion in assets, AlTi Tiedemann Global was asked by Bloomberg if they would recommend going long on NVIDIA stocks at present and maintaining optimism for the second half of the year.

Nancy Curtin indicated that generative AI videos still hold significant advantages in new product development.

NVIDIA’s Blackwell platform signifies a breakthrough in accelerating computing power. Blackwell offers robust capabilities for constructing and running large-scale language models, marking a significant technological leap for real-time generative AI video techniques. Whether in hardware or software markets, NVIDIA’s BlackWell GPU holds strong competitiveness in the global semiconductor market, with governments, medical institutions, and the automotive industry just beginning to procure chips.

However, simultaneously during the interview, there were reports alleging that France’s antitrust and regulatory authority is preparing to sue NVIDIA, with NVIDIA refraining from commenting publicly on these allegations as of the deadline.

Last September, France’s competition watchdog conducted a raid on a chip company, at which time NVIDIA stated that aside from France, reviews and regulatory actions were also underway in China, the EU, and the UK. Regulatory authorities in France and the EU have also made antitrust and competition accusations against Microsoft and Apple, which are still pending.

NVIDIA’s core products have evolved from chip and hardware manufacturers to AI artificial intelligence platforms. NVIDIA’s ecosystem, which includes GPUs, programming languages, and software, almost monopolizes all related markets. There are reports that French regulatory authorities are preparing to file lawsuits against NVIDIA’s products including CUDA chip programming software and recently invested AI cloud computing services.

NVIDIA’s AI platform and creators will be closely interdependent. Under NVIDIA’s technological collaboration, new deep machine learning systems can generate graphics, voice, and video from text, transforming AI-generated art into another form of AI art system.

For instance, Adobe’s video editing software Premiere uses CUDA chip programming to accelerate editing, reducing production time and saving effort for creators. Historically, creators faced inefficiencies in editing video due to slow processing and bugs, making quick access to editing difficult. CUDA combines high-speed processing with AI deep learning and cloud systems, solving all these issues at once.

While this sounds promising, allowing creators to quickly access video files uploaded to cloud systems and generate large volumes of similar nature derivative videos using AI machine learning may pose copyright infringement and data privacy concerns.

Premiere has several plug-in apps utilizing CUDA and NVIDIA’s AI platform to generate videos, posing many gray areas in this innovative technological field. Following past EU and UK-French policies on protecting personal data and intellectual property rights, if allegations are proven, NVIDIA will face challenges in stagnating its flagship products.
