Emerging Blockchain Gaming Projects in the Expanding Bitcoin Ecosystem

The controversy over the viability of texts in the Bitcoin (BTC) ecosystem has been heating up, but besides NFTs and BRC-20, many people have actually been using the Ordinals protocol to develop more diverse games in the Bitcoin ecosystem. One of the current attention-grabbing projects in the market is the Real Player DAO.

Bitcoin gaming is just getting started

The popularity of texts has proven the potential and community foundation of the Bitcoin ecosystem. Compared to other public chains, the Bitcoin ecosystem has broad ecological value due to BTC’s unique historical positioning.

Therefore, in addition to NFTs and BRC-20, people have long been trying to use these technologies in Web3 games. However, due to the limitations of the Bitcoin network, most games are simple and few in number, and the projects are relatively early and appear rough.

However, Bitcoin ecosystem games are still worth experimenting with and observing their growth. In the current controversy over the impact of Ordinals on the Bitcoin ecosystem, perhaps other aspects of thinking can be generated through this.

Currently, there are four relatively well-known Bitcoin gaming projects, which are introduced below.

Bitmap is a metaverse project proposed by Twitter user @blockamoto in June this year. It has issued a total of 820,000 plots of land. Bitmap uses ordinal theory and bitmap theory to construct land patterns:
Ordinal theory: Numbers the smallest unit of Bitcoin, satoshi, and defines the scarcity of satoshi, which is determined by production time.
Bitmap theory: Converts the transaction information in Bitcoin blocks into parcels. The differences in transaction inputs lead to different sizes and arrangements of the converted parcels.

Bitmap has successfully attracted market attention. The minimum price for Bitmap land is currently about 0.0022 BTC, or about $100. The number of holding addresses has exceeded 27,000, and Bitmap land has also made it to the popular list of Magic Eden.

This project is similar to the aforementioned Bitmap and belongs to the same type of metaverse project.

Bitmap Valley aims to integrate social, entertainment, and gaming into one, similar to existing metaverse projects. Bitmap Valley also issues tokens called EVLV, which are expected to be used to purchase items in the virtual world.

Currently, this project allows whitelisted users to move and interact with items in the virtual world. However, the author believes that this project is still in its early stages and is a product under development.

BTC PixelWar, launched for over a month, is also a game built using the Ordinals protocol. It allows all users to place their desired pixels on a public canvas after connecting their wallets.

After connecting their wallets on the official website, users can choose pixels to add colors to on the canvas or directly paste complete images using drawing tools. PixelWar has a total of 2.1 million pixels, with each pixel priced at 0.000033 BTC, or about $1.5.

If the selected image is large, the required pixels and corresponding costs will be higher. Therefore, PixelWar has a guild mode that allows groups to collectively contribute funds to create a work.

PixelWar attracts users with token incentives and NFT designs. For each submitted pixel, users can receive 10 BPIX tokens and also receive an NFT of the current snapshot image, providing users with speculative motivation.

Ordz is just an HTML document game. Users can directly open the text details and enter the game through a text browser.

Ordz games are all pixel mini-games. The games provided by Ordz include tank battles, sheep games, spaceships, and a series of mini-games. Players can earn points by playing games in each season and redeem OG tokens in the later stage.

Currently, the hotspots in the Bitcoin ecosystem are mainly focused on texts and BRC-20. The games are still in a very early stage, and both content design and product completeness need improvement.

Most Bitcoin ecosystem games are meme-oriented. Additionally, most projects use incentive mechanisms to encourage players to play. Therefore, it is relatively difficult to maintain player engagement in these games, and they mostly rely on the consensus of speculation. It is recommended that users participating in these products at this stage do not consider them as investments or speculative activities.

However, Bitcoin ecosystem games have indeed attracted a lot of market attention. Whether it is the unique value of BTC’s ecosystem or the community foundation of Ordinals, these projects increase imagination for future development and provide an opportunity for the crypto community to discuss the pros and cons of Ordinals. Therefore, it is still worth observing the future developments.
