Circle’s Stock Surge and P/E Ratio

The U.S. stablecoin giant Circle officially went public on June 5, with an issue price of $31 per share. After opening at $69.5, the stock price surged and closed at $151.06 on June 16, injecting a strong dose of cryptocurrency excitement into the U.S. IPO market.

However, IPOs are typically open only to professional investors, while retail investors can only buy shares directly on the secondary market on the day of listing. On that day, Circle’s shares opened at $69.5, meaning that even if investors bought at market price at the opening, their cost was at least above $69.5, leading to a current return of 118%. If Ark purchased at the IPO price of $31, their return on investment would be even higher at 387%. Previous analyses by blockchain news have indicated that Circle’s P/E ratio has reached as high as 218.
